Orca Charging Mount: The ultimate boating mount
March 20, 2023 • 3 min read
The Orca Charging Mount transforms your Orca Display 2 into a hands-free navigation experience.
Orca Display 2 is battery-powered and portable, letting you use it as a regular tablet. Bring it onshore or below deck for planning, or pass it to someone else for their opinion on the upcoming route. While portability is great, hands-free navigation is a must for many at sea.
This is why we built the Orca Charging Mount – the ultimate charging mount for boating.
Orca Charging Mount: The ultimate mount for boating
The Orca Charging Mount transforms your Display 2 into a hands-free navigation display.
Attaching the Orca Display 2 to the Orca Charging Mount is incredibly easy: Just place the display in the mount and close the spring-loaded locking lever. Your Display 2 is now secured and charged via its built-in wireless charging system. Undocking is done in a snap, just pull the tag on the locking lever to bring your Display 2 elsewhere.

During Display 2’s concept development phase, we decided to aim for wireless charging as its primary charging method. The motivation for wireless charging was simple: It meant no cables or exposed connectors that would be susceptible to wear or corrosion. That said, going wireless was not risk-free: Orca Display 2's ultra-bright screen is power-hungry at full brightness and would push the limits of wireless charging technology. Going wireless was a bold bet, but we believed it was the future of boating.
The widely-adopted QI charging standard supports a maximum of 15W charging speeds. While 15W is fast, the Orca Display 2’s power consumption exceeds 15W at full brightness. The Display 2 needed a more powerful charging system than QI – so we set out to build it.
After a lot of work, the bet paid off: Orca Display 2 and the Orca Charging Mount come with a proprietary ultra-fast 25W wireless charging system. This brand-new system is able to charge the Orca Display 2 while running at full brightness.
The charging system has incredibly high efficiency, meaning it generates far less heat than regular wireless chargers, which in turn enables the Display 2 to reach a stunning 55°C peak operating temperature.

The mount is completely waterproof and handles low and high temperatures with ease. The mount has also been designed for extreme robustness. It has endured rigorous shock testing and long-running vibration testing to ensure it will operate in even the roughest conditions.
Incredible flexibility meets a quick and easy installation
Boats come in a lot of different shapes and sizes, and so do helms and steering positions. A great navigation system should adapt to each boat’s particular layout, and because of this, the Orca Charging Mount was designed from the bottom up for flexibility.
The Orca Charging Mount is powered by a 12-24V DC, and has three primary mounting options that are fast and easy to conduct by boaters and professional installers alike:
Top-mounted, with the included mounting arm
Flush-mounted on a flat surface, such as a dashboard or the wall next to the companionway
Mast-mounted on both wide and narrow mast mounts
Top Mount
Top mounting takes up a minimal dashboard footprint and is perfect for compact dashboards.
This option gives you an adjustable mount that can be tilted and rotated. Because the entire mount assembly is hidden behind the Orca Display 2’s screen, the Top Mount makes it look as if your Orca Display 2 is floating when you are piloting your boat.

Surface Mount
Flush mounting on a flat surface results in a low-profile and elegant look at the helm or at the wall next to the companionway.
The flush mount is designed to cover up cutouts from existing flush-mounted chartplotter installations with a waterproof sealing edge along the back of the mount. The minimum size of the covered cutout is 120x120mm, while the maximum cutout supported is 220x160mm.

Mast Mount
Instrument panels on the mast are very convenient when sailing with a team.
Mast-mounted instruments are viewable from many positions onboard, letting the entire team keep track of the wind and your sailing performance. The Orca Charging Mount has the same horizontal footprint as a B&G 20/20 and Garmin GNX 120, making for a simple drop-in replacement. You can also use any 100x100mm VESA mounting bracket as the base for your mast mount.
Mast mounting enables the entire crew to keep track of the wind and your sailing performance.
The ultimate mount for boating
Orca Charging Mount is the perfect companion for your Orca Display 2. It brings hands-free navigation and charging to your display, in an elegant and robust assembly. No matter which type of boat you have, you can be sure that the Orca Charging Mount will fit it, and the installation will be fast and easy.
