I have been using it two summers and find that it really works and is easy to expand with multiple phone and tablets. This allows me to navigate and control the autopilot from more places on the boat. Could we add hydrographica carts in Stockholm archipelago id move away completely from the other apps. Also the ongoing development since I first started have created a software that is stable to a degree that I hope it won’t cause any issues this summer.

With change of motor boat last season also bought core, app I hased earlier. Installation was super easy. Couple things what makes Orca different, Logbook, one can see even after seaon all info from last summer. Fast auto correction is another what makes Orca different comparing to other choises. Sharing, using several iPhones and Ipads same time is great feature.

My Najad 330 was built in 1995 and I bought it in April 2024. The standard network is SeatalkNG. Connected are modern Raymarine devices and a 30 year old Autohelm autopilot (Seatalk 1). I have replaced the older MFD with a 12‘ tablet (IP68) next to the instruments and an 11’ tablet (IP68, IP69K, MIL-STD-810H) directly on the steering wheel. The Orca app runs on both Android tablets. The Orca Core is mounted behind the Raymarine instruments on the companionway. The control of the old autopilot works perfectly. Overall, the system runs smoothly. The configuration of the instrument display is good. The Orca app is very clear. Of course, there are various other functions that I would like to see. However, it is impressive how quickly both the Orca app and the Orca Core are developing. In this respect, I am very confident that some of the desired functions will already be realised for the next season. But even now, the app - in combination with the Core - is by far the best navigation solution I know.

I have been using Orca for over three years and I am continually impressed by the steady stream of enhancements that the team has delivered. As I already have full B&G instrumentation, my own use is mostly for pre-planning and the sail routing and departure time analysis has proved very beneficial, particularly on longer (12hr+ passages). On a couple of occasions I have trusted the planning analysis to hold on to seemingly indirect tacks knowing that a later wind shift would put me back on course. The combination of the Core plus App is an excellent way of modernising instruments for older boats and starting an N2K network. The Core represents excellent value given that it combines a 9-axis compass/sensor, GPS and sophisticated sail computer which would cost several times more from the "traditional" player like B&G. The software driven approach ensures flexibility and rapid enhancements. Being designed for a "connected" world the benefits of regular weather and chart updates mean that the most accurate information is used when making routing decisions. Couple all this with remote access (particularly useful for anchor watch or battery monitoring during extended periods away from the boat), logbook recording and more! This feels like the future of marine instruments, especially given the difficulties that Raymarine have had getting Lighthouse updates for sailing and B&G's patchyNeon/Android development on their latest generation MFDs.
