I have been using it two summers and find that it really works and is easy to expand with multiple phone and tablets. This allows me to navigate and control the autopilot from more places on the boat. Could we add hydrographica carts in Stockholm archipelago id move away completely from the other apps. Also the ongoing development since I first started have created a software that is stable to a degree that I hope it won’t cause any issues this summer.

With change of motor boat last season also bought core, app I hased earlier. Installation was super easy. Couple things what makes Orca different, Logbook, one can see even after seaon all info from last summer. Fast auto correction is another what makes Orca different comparing to other choises. Sharing, using several iPhones and Ipads same time is great feature.

My Najad 330 was built in 1995 and I bought it in April 2024. The standard network is SeatalkNG. Connected are modern Raymarine devices and a 30 year old Autohelm autopilot (Seatalk 1). I have replaced the older MFD with a 12‘ tablet (IP68) next to the instruments and an 11’ tablet (IP68, IP69K, MIL-STD-810H) directly on the steering wheel. The Orca app runs on both Android tablets. The Orca Core is mounted behind the Raymarine instruments on the companionway. The control of the old autopilot works perfectly. Overall, the system runs smoothly. The configuration of the instrument display is good. The Orca app is very clear. Of course, there are various other functions that I would like to see. However, it is impressive how quickly both the Orca app and the Orca Core are developing. In this respect, I am very confident that some of the desired functions will already be realised for the next season. But even now, the app - in combination with the Core - is by far the best navigation solution I know.
Show Full ReviewExcellent all round alternative to MFD
I have been using Orca for over three years and I am continually impressed by the steady stream of enhancements that the team has delivered. As I already have full B&G instrumentation, my own use is mostly for pre-planning and the sail routing and departure time analysis has proved very beneficial, particularly on longer (12hr+ passages). On a couple of occasions I have trusted the planning analysis to hold on to seemingly indirect tacks knowing that a later wind shift would put me back on course. The combination of the Core plus App is an excellent way of modernising instruments for older boats and starting an N2K network. The Core represents excellent value given that it combines a 9-axis compass/sensor, GPS and sophisticated sail computer which would cost several times more from the "traditional" player like B&G. The software driven approach ensures flexibility and rapid enhancements. Being designed for a "connected" world the benefits of regular weather and chart updates mean that the most accurate information is used when making routing decisions. Couple all this with remote access (particularly useful for anchor watch or battery monitoring during extended periods away from the boat), logbook recording and more! This feels like the future of marine instruments, especially given the difficulties that Raymarine have had getting Lighthouse updates for sailing and B&G's patchyNeon/Android development on their latest generation MFDs.

I've used Orca core and the app over a few months in Greece in 2023. I appreciate the ease of installation and the app provides clear charts. I have not really used the routing feature enough to evaluate it.
Show Full ReviewOrca as autopilot compass and main navigation source across europe
Last year my wife and I sailed 13 months from Germany to portugal, to the canaries the azores and back to Germany. At this time we used the Orca Core as our only heading source for our Simrad AC12 autopilot, which steered nearly all the time. This worked pretty great. The App and Maps came basically free bundled with the core and were mostly our only map source on this journey. The maps were not always correct, which can be a bit upsetting, when you always approach new harbours like us - often at night. But we like the look of the maps and the synchronization over multiple devices is great. One time a bug made Orca unusable for us (and a lot of other people). That was one day before a 10 day passage... Thankfully it was quickly fixed just hours before we wanted to leave. Next time i won't install any updates before longer passages. I really hope Orca steps up their quality checks before releases. Weather routing was not very usable last year, at least for longer (multi-day) passages. Then i prefer proper sail routing with Grib files, e.g. with Qtvlm. I also really do not like that they made collision avoidance a paid feature of the highest paid tier - smart navigation. This really is an important safety feature and makes me question, if we will keep buying a subscription for Orca. Something i really would like to see for Orca is an open API, preferably SignalK. That would be lovely, so i do not need a second device share my NMEA2000 data over wifi.
Show Full ReviewProblem with Installation - fun to use
I had severe problems with the Installation ORCA Core/App and connection to my plotter (Garmin gpsmap7xx). It turned out that the GPS Signal has to be taken from Cora and not from the plotter. Now it works great, just as advertised. The logbook could be improved in a way that the customer can add Pictures and notices.
Show Full ReviewFinally an innovation on plotters - with ups and downs
Coming from an older Furuno plotter and ancient instruments I swapped to Orca in Spring 2024, using two displays and a core. I have used this setup to cross the Atlantic and cruise the Caribbean. It is clear, that the Orca system is a new approach on plotters and instruments. Use is quite straight forward, instruments are very helpful and with a lot of choice. Most screens are very easy to understand. The flexibility is fantastic. The biggest advantage is the option to turn any phone into a mini plotter. I use this at the helm when finding anchor spots or navigating difficult areas. Autopilot control and radar checking from the phone can also be handy. The rich sensor output of the core is a refreshing departure from the marine electronics industries "every sensor is ~1000€" idiocy. Routing is quick and most of the times sensible. A much faster process than on my older plotter, especially as it lacked land avoidance. During my Atlantic crossing the system performed well, only 3 or 4 restarts in 2 weeks. The old plotted needed more and I hear current competitors have a tendency to require the same. I have mixed feelings about the charts. I have found them to be accurate so far but am missing a system to log own depth readings, e.g. when discovering uncharted coastline. Biggest downside chart wise is the lack of description of special areas, like protected zones etc. They are marked, but no text explanations are available. The Navionics app has solved this much better. On the downside, the system is still developing. Depending on your use you may miss features. Brightness regulation on the displays is hit and miss. No screen lock on some screens, which is a BIG problem in rain or spray. The radar overlay lacks options, no doppler functions, no alarms for radar, AIS, wind changes or anything else but anchoring. No fish finder and the wind instruments lack meaningful history graphs (current function for this is just a play thing, not useful). Routing is limited to 1300nm so you need to import a route from another app for longer trips. Chart downloads are painstakingly slow and frequently abort. The core, while rich in sensors can have some accuracy and speed issues. My compass calibration drifts 10-15 degrees either direction regularly - this may be down to my installation location. GPS reception is bad unless the core is installed upright - even though marketing will tell you otherwise. The motion sensor is too slow to function well for showing tilt and heel and accordingly doesn't work for me for an autopilot (which I don't need, the AP has its own compass + gyro). The wireless connection of display and core works reliable if you use WiFi. All other connections are hit and miss. Overall, I would consider Orca again. I believe all problems I explained above can be resolved - they just need to stop developing new playful features like logbook and annual summaries and focus on getting plotter basics rock solid first. The established players on the market are out of control with their pricing and depending what you buy you get ancient tech. Most importantly, they do zero support while Orca is always available and responds within a few days, usually. Despite this, I can not recommend Orca if you are not good with your smartphone - it is an app based system, so knowing your way around a smartphone is essential.

This far, most things are positive, I like that it logs my trips and syncs with other equipment on the boat. What I miss is access to hydrographic charts for Sweden as I mostly navigate here and it is a must for navigating in the archipelago.
Show Full ReviewGreat User Experience!
Orca is by far the number one when it comes to UI. When creating a new navigation tool from scratch with no legacy, the result is this impressive. The super simple integration with the NMEA network makes vessel data appear seamlessly in the app. Keep up the great work!
Show Full ReviewGood value, Easy use
Works well in offshore and in open sea areas. Routing proposes going into very close and shallow areas where the chart reliability is not good. Therefore I take a safety margin on how close shallow areas I can go. That is not the fault of Orca but the fact that you cannot rely the charts.

I have existing Raymarine Seatalk1 system, and used a Raymarine ST to STng converter kit (E22158) and STng NEMA 2000 cable. I use Ipad pro but the system is unstable, and often loose connection with Orca Core II. Now Core dosen`t appear as a wifi option. I really like the Orca system (when I get it to work). I dislike the payment by subscription.
Show Full ReviewVery Useful
Orca is the backup system to the Raymarine instruments on my boat. I haven't yet got around to tieing in the radar but, so far, everything else works pretty well and the auto-pilot integration is excellent and very useful. Our season doesn't start for another month but, I'm hopeful that some of the minor issues have been ironed out. For example, the graphical history of, say, fuel consumption is a bit hit and miss and, I suspect that unless you have a good set of polars for your boat, the sailing performance screen isn't super useful. On the whole, I think that Orca isn't quite the finished product but, it's evolving in the right direction. At this point, it's a good backup to my main chartplotter but, I'm not sure that I'm ready to rely on it 100%.

Really pleased with the Orca setup I have on my boat. Mainly using the app for controlling the Autopilot but also really nice to have a portable map screen to use when motoring in rain. Only downside is the v1 Orca Display, it's not bright enough, I have issues with overheating in sun and battery life and charging are disappointing. Thinking of upgrading to the new display.
Show Full ReviewUsing CORE2 and ORCA app.

I have a CORE2 device on my sailboat, and I actively use the ORCA application on three tablets. The hardware works so well that I no longer need actual chartplotters. One of the best features is that my map points are synchronized between several tablets, and I can continue planning or editing map points even from home on the couch. One wish would be: I would like to use the ORCA program with a web browser. This way I could use my Linux or Windows devices. I am not an Apple fanboy, so I do not own any Apple devices. I primarily want to use free Linux operating systems, such as Debian/Ubuntu/LinuxMint, etc., and the browser versions for them are Chrome and Firefox.

Display: Good: - Waterproof! - Very bright! - The charging cradle is top-notch! Bad: - Hot in bright light (like every plotter) - Poor sound quality - In wet conditions, the device does what it wants, but not what it's supposed to. Apparently, water drops trigger commands, but they're pointless. - Android version cannot be updated App: Good: - Lots of information on weather, ports (we use Navily, but the Navily app is better), currents, etc., - AIS! - Autoroute Bad: - Especially the resolution of the maps. Compared to Navionics, they're beyond rudimentary. - The automatic route guidance sometimes creates crazy routes, for example: driving under a bridge, in a part of the bridge that's far too deep, but Orca knows the height of the boat and the bridge. Or it makes sensless waypoints beside the main route.

I try to replace my Raymarine Axiom 7. The plotter is to far away from my steering wheel, i can't read the numbers. So, thatswhy I use a tablet with the Orca app fixed near the wheel. Show Full ReviewVery intuitive and easy to use but needs improvement.

I have now for one year used Orca as my main electronic aid (does not by law replace paper charts). I first used automatic routing to plan my homecoming voyage through the Finnish Southwest Archipelago. As a good practice I always check what the robot has done before starting the voyage I soon found out that it had cut corners where it should not. After a few tries to correct the Automatic route I decided to draw the route manually myself. After some testing I have come to the conclusion that the automatic routing is great for open waters but as the AI does not recognize fairways automatic routing in the archipelagos is not recommended. In the end of fall I also did some night navigation in the Porvoo archipelago and noticed a quite big problem with the night colour palette. When the general depth goes under a certain level the water areas are coloured red and the land areas are also coloured red. This makes it extremely hard to see the differences between shallow depths and land areas. In Finland the most common areas to navigate with leisure crafts are on small fairways in shallow waters (3-10m depth) and between rocky islands. I understand the reason to use such a colour in the rest of the world where it is not recommended to approach shore beyond a certain safety depth. But in Finland and Sweden it is impossible to navigate to where you are going when at the same time avoiding these depths. Strong recommendation from a professional mariner to change the night colour palette. All this said this is one of the easier and intuitive apps for tablets and I highly recommend the Orca display for its brightness. Replacing a traditional chart plotter with a tablet device that has it's own battery for backup can change the outcome when you blow a fuse in a tight spot. I am seriously thinking about investing in the Core but this years budget did not have space.

Show Full ReviewAIS and instrument aggregation
I purchased my Orca Core 2 partly because the unit (and app) looked so interesting and more importantly I needed a means of displaying AIS data on my various navigation devices. I use Garmin (Navionics) as my primary navigation software and I prefer to have my AIS data available on a separate display (phone/tablet) to keep screen clutter to a minimum. The Orca Core 2, after a few teething issues, has performed very well. My primary wind instrument is a B&G Triton 2 - with a Wireless wind WS 320 transducer (which is awesome and far, far better than the Garmin Wireless Wind - The Triton 2 gets its wind data from the Orca Core 2. I cannot force the Triton 2 to use its own built in algorithm for some arcane reason and I had some issues with the Orca Core 2 giving wildly inaccurate and unstable wind data when going down wind. (this was when I found that I could not get the Triton 2 to process the data itself). However the people at Orca resolved the issue with an update and since then the wind data is consistent, as expected and does not bounce around with pitch and roll (compensated for by the Orca Core 2). My AIS transponder does not have Bluetooth or WiFi but I am happy to say that the Orca Core 2 transmits AIS data to my phone(s) and tablet(s) accurately, with no dropouts. Overall I am very pleased both with the unit and with the support that I get from Orca. The Orca charting program is entirely sufficient for my purposes. I sail in the Pacific NorthWest.
Show Full ReviewEasy to use
I have used the Orca display for one season, I find the display easy to use. Best functions: menu things are were you expect them to be, the screen and functions are quick with no lag, zoom and navigation is easy. Loading station. Chart quality is excellent. Irritating things: saving maps for offline use is not user friendly, irritating. Making a route to a defined point is easy, but making waypoint or adjusting rout could be improved.

Show Full ReviewORCA: From Revolution to Evolution

When ORCA first hit the market it was, without doubt, a revolution in the world of marine chartplotters. Now the Orca Team are focussed on evolving the software / services behind the product(s). The App works well on Android and iOS devices as a (free) standalone, and the Orca display (Android-based) is a rugged device with good screen visibility in bright sunlight, but the real benefit is in the Core. Inside the tiny Core is a GPS receiver, 9-axis IMU, and compass, with capability to connect the sensors to your onboard NMEA 2000 network. This brings together your wind/log/auto-pilot and many other compatible instruments and allows you to control auto-pilot from the App or Display, or an alternative display such as an onboard PC. The App can be used for free, but if you want the full benefits of routing, weather, radar, AIS, etc. there is a choice of subscription levels. Unlike other chartplotter subscriptions, ORCA includes worldwide charts at all levels - you pay for the level of functionality you want. In a very small number of areas there is a lack of detail on charts, due to licencing, but most coastal areas are very well covered. The key area needing improvement is the current / tidal prediction elements of the software which can be quite haphazard, and can affect routing outcomes, particularly arrival times . If not for that, I'd be awarding the full 5 stars.
Show Full ReviewOrca a versatile navigation system

I am quite happy with Orca. I have it connected to a SignalK server (through a SignalK to NMEA2000 plugin) that gives wind, depth and other data from old devices, an AIS transceiver directly to NMEA2000 and a PyPilot autopilot through a PyPilot to NMEA2000 device. Most of the time everything works OK. Only position sometimes with more error than supposed but they say the the new Orca Core 2 (mine is 2 but older) has better precision. The Orca Display 2 is the main plotter and is very easy to read during day and night. Had to say that in the night mode some low depth areas are dificult to differentiate from just shore. Responsiveness of the display is very good. Much better than some plotters, and quality of display is also quite good. I would prefer having buttons instead of swipes because when wet they work better. That's a problem also with Axiom MFD's. Having weather information integrated is good but I also use Windy to have a more complete view and be able to compare different models. I am based in North west Mediterranean so no opinion about tides as we have monstrous tides of 20cm. Same for currents. I use Autorouting but just to get an idea. Usually change it a lot when faced with reality. Once again no opinion in channels etc. asa I don't have them. Also estimated times are than, estimated. I would like an easier way to set manual routes. Something like edit route, click some points a finish route. Editing waypoints is also somewhat confusing. For Logs, now they are much better than some months ago. I find that we should be able to export, not only the gps track but also the other data, for example wind, engine parameters, etc. About installation, it is easy. I first installed the Core iin nterior but have changed it to the outside. Much better GPS signal. The Display is with the wireless charger.

I have been using Orca for the last two seasons and I'm overall satisfied with the system. The ease of its use and the simplicity of its features are where they have an advantage compared to the traditional system I've installed (Raymarine). I run the setup with an Orca Core (version 1) linked to a Samsung S9+ (and various phones) and that is normally my primary navigation tool but I have the Raymarine running as well as the Orca Android app have a tendency to shutdown unexpectedly sometimes, especially on longer legs. Orca was one of the major upgrades on our boat which make it easier to sail a more comfortable through the possibility to adjust the autopilot while not being in the helm. Also since we’ve started using it, a lot of improvements have come by updates. One major downside is that the quality of charts in shallow water is very imprecise. There is no difference in color for water with 1,5m 2m 3m and even deeper. This can lead to difficulties of navigation especially while approaching an anchorage. This is the only reason why it is not sufficient for us as a stand alone navigation solution and we need to switch to navionics for example for better details. I really hope it will be fixed

Have been using Orca for 2 seasons now, with Orca Core and iPad for viewing. Working great integrated with Raymarine autopilot for cruising along routes. Just ordered Display 2 for even better experience.

I have used Orca using the original Hub for a few years, I also have Raymarine MFD’s AIS and radar and although I use these I prefer using Orca for its tidal and weather as well as planning, it’s a great piece of kit and will be upgrading this year.

Show Full ReviewOrca and me
I find Orca really good, less cluttered than Navionics, better route planning and very responsive to weather and tides. The core brings all my boat electrics to gather on one screen of the tablet. The Tablet is very robust and easy to see in bright sunshine. The amount of Orca adds I get are a bit annoying especially as I have tge full package. The log book is a great addition and has the potential to become a complete sailing package.

I’m 90% satisfied with orca. The support ist very good. It develops over the time, but still has some bugs and hiccups. I am confident, that orca will become a perfect navigation tool. It is easy to use and my main navigation program although I still use another one as backup.

I am a relative new sailor, and bought my Albin Delta in 2021. I am a data freak, so I wanted to be able to see as much data about my sailboat as possible, so I purchased the Orca Core. It was an absolute breeze to install, and it took only about an hour to get it installed, and integrated into my existing N2K network. Calibration was performed, and for the first few seasons, I just used the Orca App on an cheap tablet, and my Android phone. The primary reason I wanted the Orca system, was to do route planning and switch to Orca as the primary navigation and planning tool. After a couple of years with the cheap tablet, and app, I decided to get the Orca Display 2, so I could get a readable monitor on deck. This has been an excellent upgrade, and I now only use Orca as my primary navigation and planning tool. One of the best features with Orca is the constant upgrades and development of the software. With Orca there is no need to purchase expensive chart upgrades every now and then, nor du you need to purchase expensive MFD upgrades/replacements to get new features. Lately I have begun using Orca on MacOS for my route planning, and having a larger screen is just a perfect way for route planning, and proves to me the innovation and forward thinking of Orca is FAR ahead of other traditional products. There are, off course minor glitches in the software (as with all software) but Orca is listening to their strong community, and plan/release features with at impressive speed.

Show Full ReviewGreat value for money
We bought Orca Display at the end of the 2024 season to help get our newly purchased yacht to our chosen overwintering boat yard. We navigated our way from Trinité-sur-Mer to Conleau through the fabulous Golfe du Morbihan in Brittany using Orca Display. Those who know the Golfe will appreciate how nervous we were, never having navigated this journey before and doing so in a boat that was completely new to us. Suffice it to say that the Orca Display got us to our destination faultlessly and we arrived pretty much as predicted. The confidence gained from being able to keep our eye on the "live" chart meant we could relax and enjoy what would otherwise have been a pretty stressful trip. We will be fitting the Orca Core in preparation for the 2025 season and look forward to a full season on the water in and around the Golfe du Morbihan and the Baie de Quiberon, helped in no small way by this great bit of kit. To think about the price comparison between Orca and a new mainsail (the former being about half the latter) makes Orca seem like a real bargain. If you're on the fence about whether the Orca system is worth buying, my opinion is that you should do so right now. It's a really good investment in your peace of mind and enjoyment.

Very good
It offers a different experience from other chart plotters, mostly in a good way. For my part the autopilot control on the iPhone or tablet is something I use all the time, and just love.

I‘m using ORCA to plan routes on my iPhone, iPad and now also on my MacBook while still on land, finding the best places to go based on weather. Autorouting for sailboats takes the polars of my boat into account and gives me accurate, realistic routes and forecasts. On the boat, I‘m using the Orca Display in the cockpit to follow the route. I wish I could sync the active route between Orca and my B&G Zeus MFDs.

sailed from denmark in 2023. crossed the Atlantic, half a year in the caribean, through Panama, galapagos, crossed the Pacific and now a year in French Polynesia. overall I am happy about how the Orca work. I like the outlook, the features and the intuitive. I go not like that it makes multypli failor on route-making, that it is SO bad in rain and waves, that the glue only last one and a half year, that it does not charge, that the screening is not roubust enough to real sailing. but I still would like to continue with using it.

Show Full ReviewI like Orca overall
As a marine navigation app, I like Orca overall. The best part is that it integrates my autopilot and ais into an easy to use and attractive interface. Managing my autopilot directly from my phone has been a boon for me as a solo sailor. I've also used the anchor watch and that works well. As for cons, the biggest downfall of Orca is that it heavily favors the much smaller market of IOS users, with options for Apple Watch, Macs, etc. There is no android watch app or pc app at the time of review. Other negatives include lack of collision alarms (this is a big con!) and in my opinion, a rather clunky representation of tide and current data on charts. Finally, customer support has been substandard in my experience, with requests for help or information arriving at times with either considerable delay or not at all. Orca's customer support seems like it still might be in development so it may improve over time. Coverage seems to be constantly expanding, so that is of course welcome. Value for money 3/5 because I still have to use other apps to cover some of Orca's shortcomings. Overall, recommended depending on where you cruise.

Came from Navinoics and I do feel like I miss some of the details in the chart and different levels of depth visibility. Also the Orca Display is so slow if it wasnt for the mount I would not have kept it at all

Orca Review Orca is impressively easy to install and seamlessly connects to Raymarin Autopilot and Garmin AIS/Radio. Its user-friendly interface makes navigation straightforward, even without a dedicated navigation station. The charts offer superb visibility and readability, enhancing the overall experience. Fantastic to use phone, Orca Display and tablet at the same time or whenever one is more suitable for the job than the other. Compared to other solutions, Orca stands out for its simplicity and cost-effectiveness. While there are some minor software glitches, the logbook could benefit from additional functionality. Overall, Orca is a reliable and efficient choice for marine navigation.
Show Full ReviewSmart Navigation with Orca
I switched to Orca from the PC based navigation software "Coastal Explorer", which was great, but outdated and the need for a PC was a burden. Orca runs fast and reliable across various devices: I'm using a Macbook for planning, underway Orca runs on a 14'' Android tablet. And for checking distances quickly I often use Orca on my iPhone . Beside Orca I'm using Raymarine Axiom MFDs with Navionics charts. Beside the good feeling of having the second opinion of a different chart in complicated situations, Navionics provides very detailed depth information with Sonar Charts, which Orca does not provide yet. One highlight of Orca for me is controlling my autopilot: With Orca I can follow a detailed route automatically (I'm traveling under power), which makes my life much easier, especially when I'm sailing alone. Some other highlights in my point of view: - The crisp and clear charts - Orca always is fast and responsive - Exchanging routes between devices automatically - Logbook - Easy of use - Improves frequently - All charts included I really like Orca and can recommend it.

Even though I have a complete Raymarine system on my sailboat, I use my Orca system more often. It's easy to use, and very portable. I actually use the app on my Android 9 phone with a clip-on arm in my cockpit so I can sit with my guests, instead of using my helm station.
Show Full ReviewHappy with Orca Core
I purchased this so that way I would have automatic logging of my trips without having to always remember to start and stop logging on Navionics on my phone. It's also nice to have the data from wind instruments logged alongside my trip reports. I'm an engineer so I always love to see data and the orca reports have been really nice to look back on. I mainly do day sails in familiar waters so I've not used the routing features at all. The charts are nice, but it's hard to compare to Navionics with the crowdsourced sonar readings. So I use both the orca charts for general positioning and navigation. But I do still always switch to navionics when I'm anchoring.
