Welcome to the NAS and KNS Summer Cruise 2026. This web page will provide weather forecasts and routing proposals for each leg of your voyage. The proposals are created by the Orca Navigation system.

Sunday 28th weather report
This weather report covers the following legs of your upcoming journey:

5-day Overview
Monday starts with low winds and light rain. Tuesday may follow this pattern too – but the weather models disagree. ECMWF predicts rain while ICON Europe predicts overcast conditions. Wednesday will be sunny and cloudy. On Thursday, a new low-pressure system hits the western parts of Norway. Expect heavy rain and offshore wind speeds of up to 30 knots from the south. The wind subsides on Friday at around noon and stays relatively calm until Saturday.
Ulvik to Rosendal, 30th of June
A long leg with calm winds. Likely need to go by engine to make sufficient speed. Some rain potentially around mid-day, but weather models disagree about rain.
Rosendal to Haugesund, 2nd of July
This day begins calm, but the wind picks up in the afternoon as you get closer to the coast. Moderate rain in the morning that eases off throughout the day, but picks up again in the afternoon.
From a wind perspective, expect coastal wind speeds of up to 25 knots from the southeast in the morning, then the wind drops down to 15 knots, and then picks up from west to southwest direction at up to 30 knots speeds with gusts of up to 40 knots in the afternoon and early evening.
The last part of this leg from Bømlo to Haugesund is exposed, and there are no alternative routes. As of current forecasts, there is a narrow weather window to cross this exposed part at approx 20 knots of wind speed, but missing it means hitting potentially up to 30 knots of wind speed. Also expect wave heights of up to 3 meters (10 feet) for this exposed part.
You may want to consider a potential plan B. One example is going to Mosterhamn on the 2nd, and taking the exposed part of the sail on the 3rd with much more favorable conditions. A sail from Mosterhamn to Haugesund is approx. 10-12 hours.
Haugesund to Åmøy Havn, 3rd of July
If you stick to the original schedule, this will be a nice day of reaching in light to moderate winds with some potential rain showers.

3-day Overview
The weather will be mostly calm until Friday. At approx. 04:00 am Friday, a low-pressure front will hit the western parts of Norway, delivering a heavy rainshower and winds of around 15-20 knots in coastal areas. Scattered rain showers are expected on Friday and Saturday.
Bergen to Våge
A cloudy day with very calm winds. Some sailing may be possible, but expect mostly motoring conditions.
Våge to Norheimsund
Another cloudy day with mostly calm winds. Be wary of some gusts. Some sailing may be possible, but expect mostly motoring conditions in narrow fjords. The vistas will be rather amazing.
Norheimsund to Ulvik
Intermittent rainshowers with mostly very calm winds. Be wary of some gusts. Expect motoring conditions.

3-day Overview
The cruise begins with a favorable weather window as a low-pressure system is passing further north. If the weather forecast holds, we can expect sunny conditions on Sunday and Monday, a cloudy Tuesday, with potential for rain as we approach Bergen on the 23rd.
Stavanger to Kopervik
This day will be sunny. Calm winds. The ICON Europe model expects winds of around 6 knots from the southwest, while the ECMWF model expects lower winds that pick up during the afternoon. If you go by sail, this will be a calm day of reaching. Bring sunscreen and sunglasses.
Kopervik to Bekkjarvik
This day will be cloudy, with potential sun in the afternoon. Calm winds. All weather models indicate very calm winds from the north. Given the time limit for the Bekkjarvik arrival, you likely need to go by engine for the majority of this day.
Bekkjarvik to Bergen
This day will be cloudy, with light rain showers throughout the day and stronger showers in the afternoon as you approach Bergen. Wind is picking up from the south throughout the day, making it a great day of downwind sailing. Be mindful that the ICON Europe model forecasts very strong gusts in the afternoon, so be on the lookout for local fronts.

Orca's default weather routing settings should be quite accurate for your current sail. If you want to fine-tune your experience, we recommend you make the following two changes to your Orca app:
Adjust your polar: Go to Main Menu > My Boat > Polar Diagram and find your ORC polar if you have one, or search for an equivalent boat type.
Adjust your polar scaling: Main Menu > My Boat > Route Settings and reduce your polar to 80% for daytime sailing, as your crew is not racing and is not expected to meet your polar targets. Feel free to also adjust other settings here, such as engine cruise speed and minimum wind speed for sailing

Innovative System, But Crucial Gaps Keep Me Paying for Navionics

It is a fantastic, forward-thinking system, and I gladly pay the €140 annual subscription just to support the development of such a promising product. However, despite having the full Orca setup on board, I am still forced to pay for and run a parallel Navionics subscription because Orca currently lacks a few critical navigational functionalities. There are two major areas where Orca falls short for my blue-water cruising needs: 1. Inaccurate Routing Around Fixed Obstacles (Bridges) The autorouting engine needs to become smarter regarding overhead clearance and openable structures. On a recent trip, Orca routed me straight through a bridge. While the bridge was visible on the map, the system completely ignored the fact that the bridge cannot be opened for a vessel of my mast height. I ended up stuck right in front of it, forced to backtrack and sail all the way around an island—adding an frustrating two hours of extra travel time to my journey. 2. Missing High-Resolution Depth Contours for Anchoring With a 3-meter draft, anchoring safely is a precise science. I always aim to anchor as shallow and close to the shore as possible to get maximum protection, while strictly avoiding running my keel aground. To do this safely, I absolutely depend on detailed, high-resolution depth contours. Right now, Orca’s depth data lacks the fidelity required for tight, shallow anchorages, forcing me to switch back to Navionics to cross-reference depths before dropping the hook. Conclusion Orca is an incredibly well-designed, innovative product that represents the future of marine navigation. I love the hardware and the overall ecosystem, which is why I remain a loyal subscriber. But until Orca implements reliable bridge clearance routing and high-resolution depth contours, it cannot be my sole primary system. I truly hope the development team addresses these gaps soon so I can finally drop my legacy subscriptions and rely 100% on Orca.

Dies wurde bejaht. Leider ist dem nicht so. Nach erneutem nachfragen sagte eurer ki Assistent dass eine Vesa Aufnahme nur mit einem Mount vorhanden ist. Da ich aber bereits einen Ram Mount habe, brauche ich die meisten Teile eures Mounts nicht. Ergo viel Geld für nichts. Zweitens, warum soll viele Google Apps? Ja, es ist ein Android System aber man kann den ganzen überflüssigen Google Mist, außer den Pay Store, nicht einmal entfernen. Denn was geht es Google an, wo ich segel, was ich nutze, was ich mache? Aber es gibt auch Lob. Euer Orca System ist gut. Ich nutze es als Redundanz zu OpenCPN auf einem Raspberry Pi 5 mit Bookworm. Danke und weiterhin viel Erfolg.

Initially considered upgrading my old Raymarine plotter to Axiom, but got frustrated paying around 2000EUR for a product that was essentially 5 years old. Decided to try Orca after trying the free app for a few weeks, and the Core 2 did not cost more than I was willing to loose if It did not live up to expectations. on third season with Orca now, and have not looked back. Using it with iPad Pro (1000 nits = quite usable in sunlight) & Iphone, as the Display 2 is simply too old to justify its price.
